Bruce was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in and around the Venice area. During his formative years, he attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and graduated in 1967. His first design job was with Robert Miles Runyon and Associates, working as an Art Director for approximately two years. After that he decided to go back to school to pursue his academic and fine art interest.
However, his academic pursuit was interrupted with a full time job offer as Art Director for the National Football League. He famously designed the helmet for the Cincinnati Bengals, which design still remain unchanged as of today. In 1983 he left NFL to accept a faculty position at Art Center College of Design.
In 1989, Bruce build a painting studio where he spent the next few years painting in Los Angeles. In 1991, he returned to his love for teaching at Art Center and has been a full time faculty professor ever since. He found teaching to be the most rewarding and gratifying profession.
Presently most of his non-teaching hours are directed to personal interest that affects the way he sees the world through his evolving approach in painting .
